10 Facts About Me | Get to Know Me Tag

Updated: Nov 19, 2023

Who is Mahalia Myrel? Honestly, I don't even really know. I am constantly reinventing myself. As I take on this journey that we call life, I want to be able to share a little bit about myself and hopefully in return I can learn a little bit about you! Today, I'm going to share 10 facts about myself that you may or may not already know about me! I would love to learn more about you too, so comment something about yourself so that we can get to know each other!

Fact #1 - The Story Behind My Name

My first name is Mahalia! I was named after Mahalia Jackson who was a gospel singer and civil rights activist. My Dad was the one who named me and he takes a lot of pride and joy in that. My middle name is Ann-Myrel. I just use Myrel for short because I like the double M's. Myrel is my grandmother's name on my mother's side. I look up to my grandmother in so many ways, she is strong, kind, goofy, and beautiful inside and out! My name means a lot to me. It is more than just my identity; it tells a story.

Fact #2 - My Favorite Subject in School

I would have to say that my favorite core subject in school is science, but my favorite elective that I took in school was Fashion Design. These are two completely different topics, but to me they are the perfect combination of logic and art. In my head, they balance each other out.

Fact #3 - I Have Never Been to a Concert

Don't get me wrong I love music. I have playlists on spotify on the 60s/70s, TV theme songs, early 2000s throwbacks, and more. I love to listen to music for the different moods I have during the day. However, I've never really wanted to go see music live in a concert setting before. I'm an introvert, so big social crowds like that can really drain my energy quickly. I like to listen to music on my own or while I'm working on something else to get my creative juices flowing. To follow me on Spotify and get to know my music taste, click here!

Fact #4 - My Favorite Color

Although my hair is purple right now, I still believe that my heart is with the color pink. Light pink has been my favorite color for as long as I can remember. To me, light pink is a neutral.

Fact #5 - I've Never Moved In My Entire Life

I've lived in the same home all my life. I've never gone through the moving process or had to experience drastic change like that. Sometimes I wished I could have moved, but it probably would have been hard on my family.

Fact #6 - I Come From A Big Family

I have 3 siblings and in total there are six members of my family. Seven if you include Nimbus, the cat. I love coming from a big family; family is so important to me!

Fact #7 - The Biggest Thing I Had To Overcome

I'd have to say the biggest thing I had to overcome was my own mind and doubting myself. I have struggled with hormonal imbalances for a few years now. At one point, depression and anxiety consumed my life. I know this might sound corny, but it gets better. You are more resilient than you realize. Never give up on yourself!

Fact #8 - Fall Is My Favorite Season

I just think Fall is absolutely beautiful and there are so many fun activities to do in Fall such as, pumpkin picking, baking fall themed pastries, and most importantly, fall shopping (aka sweater weather)! Also, this is the beginning of the holiday season, which includes my birthday!

Fact #9 - My Biggest Pet Peeve

I would have to say my biggest pet peeve is when someone underestimates me. However, this just gives me the chance to prove them wrong and show them what I am capable of. If you want to hear more about pet peeves than click here!

Fact #10 - My Dream City

I would say that my dream city is definitely New York City. I have been going there every since I was a little kid because I have family who lives there. At least at one point in my life, I want to live in New York!

That's all for now! Comment below something about yourself, so we can get to know each other! Have a great day!

Lots of love,

M
